The way I’d like to approach the DC Universe is from the outside in. By starting with the Legion of Superheroes we start to get an idea of the scope of the universe. How large is the universe? How wonderful is it that we all overcame so much. What did we learn from the Age of Superheroes?
The Legion is an homage to the heroes of their past. Being the 30th/31st Century they are as far removed from today as we are from King Arthur. The legends are there, still inspiring us.
I want to go back to one of the original beginnings of the Legion.
Three teens meet on a Space Cruise. Their names are Rokk, Irma, and Garth. They are from different worlds but this isn’t seen as an odd thing. During a ceremony on the ship they foil an assassination attempt of a VIP, R.J. Brande. Rokk can control magnetism, Irma is a powerful psychic and Garth controls electricity. Their interference gets them accused of the crime. The story revolves around them trying to clear their names and getting to know one-another.
When the case is solved, Brande becomes their benefactor, showing them the inspiring history of the heroes of Earth in the 21st century. He sponsors them to become the Legion of Superheroes.
I want to keep this one light and fun. Play up the inspiration and the excitement of solving the crime. This will play into the introduction of the 21st century world in future stories.
